I will never forget my first official day as a heating and cooling technician.

When I was growing up as a kid, all my siblings had Big dreams.

I grew up with two brothers and a sister. My oldest brother wanted to be a doctor, my youngest brother wanted to be a rockstar, and my sister just wanted to be a princess. So I was the odd one out when I told my whole family that I wanted to be a heating and cooling technician. I think they blew it off at the time and didn’t take it too seriously because I thought it was just some weird dream that little kid had. However, I was adamant about what I wanted even then and I told them that I would become a heating and cooling specialist. I had become inspired after I saw a guy on TV fixing people’s HVAC systems and how happy those people were with their results. Now here I am almost 20 years later going into my first year as a heating and AC technician. I went to college and learned the trade on how to become a heating AC professional. I did excellent all throughout my schooling and I easily earned my HVAC certification. Afterwards I started looking for a job and found one only a few months after graduating. They were so impressed with my progress that they hired me on the spot and now tomorrow I start my first day as a HVAC professional. My family is really proud of me for following my dreams and seeing them through. In my opinion, tomorrow is the first day of my life and I can’t wait to see where this heating and AC road takes me.

This past weekend, I really wasn’t even trying to go shopping for anything.

I had everything I needed, I felt, however my buddies said they had to pick up some air filters which happened to be on sale.

The HEPA filters were even on sale and I was checking them out and seeing if they had any HEPA filters that would fit my HVAC system. I was really glad when I found some. When I was talking to an expert, he said that we all should consider the smart thermostats which were also on sale. I thought since I was getting a great discount on the HEPA filters, I might as well check the smart temperature controls out. The two of us all looked at the different smart temperature controls and they were all impressive in their own ways, one friend said he wanted to go for a touch screen one, which was quite expensive. I looked at a more basic model which was nice because it claimed to save up to 15% on the energy bills and it could be controlled remotely with devices connected to the internet. I just couldn’t believe how cheap it was for such a nice thermostat as I had been using an old programmable one that cost me way more money. I felt like it was my lucky day and I rushed to install that new smart temperature control. It’s funny because even my friend who went for the touch screen thermostat said he should have gotten the one I got that was less than half the cost of the one he purchased, however he said it’s pointless to have a touchscreen since he only adjusts the temperature control settings these days with his phone.

Then the heating system quit blowing enough heat in the car and after that I noticed the lights were starting to dim down a good deal. I wasn’t sure what was going on. By the time I saw an auto parts store, that’s when the car broke down and I was able to coast into the parking lot. I was happy I wasn’t just there stuck on the side of the road. I had a guy come out to check out the battery and he said it looked like my battery was bad! He tested it and sure enough, it was bad. We bought a new battery and had it installed. The guy asked if all of us also wanted him to check the alternator as they were having a sale on those, but I said all of us should be fine. The car was able to turn back on and the heating system roared to life and all of us had the ideal temperature control settings again. We made it all the way back home luckily, but then the car died on us again. It turned out the battery was totally drained again, and I realized it had to be the alternator that was the issue. I really should have listened to that guy and gone for a new alternator, but I thought it would take forever to have it installed, now all of us have to tow our car to the nearest auto mechanic to have that fixed, and I’m guessing they won’t have the alternators on sale this time.
