Have you ever gone to an outdoor music festival? Sometimes they are only a single day affair, other times they stretch out over a week.

Basically there is a stage, or multiple stages, in a large outdoor area, and people can come and go watching the various bands play throughout the day.

They are a lot of fun, but it largely depends on the weather. These festivals will only have protection from the elements for the musical acts, the festival goers are on their own! That is why I always take my RV to these events, because I have shelter if need be, and the comforts of air conditioning if it gets too hot outside. The only problem that I have with this are the people I call “AC vultures” who haunt these events. A lot of people got the idea to try and hang out with people in their RVs, to drink their beers and soak up their air conditioning in between concerts. Some folks even break into cars and RVs just to turn them on and run the AC for a while. One time I decided to turn the tables on an AC vulture, so when he knocked on my RV door I charged him twenty bucks. He was confused, so I explained that if he wanted to come inside my air conditioned RV and hang out, he had to pay me twenty bucks. He got mad, and said it wasn’t worth twenty bucks just for some crappy air conditioning, and said “fine” and shut the door in his face.

My family and I are very self reliant, which is important because the nearest population center is two hours away. We live in a very remote part of the valley, perfect for people who want to live off the land. If there is a medical emergency, or we need to purchase the kind of supplies we can’t make ourselves, then we go to town. But a trip to town only happens a few times a year, otherwise we are on our own. The “golden triangle” of necessities for the family is very simple, and includes food, water, and heating. We have multiple sources of heating, and you won’t be surprised to hear that we don’t have an air conditioner at all. There are only a handful of days every year where it gets hot enough for an AC unit, and after months of frozen tundra cooling is the last thing we want! Our main heating system is a natural gas furnace, so we have a two hundred gallon tank of natural gas in the yard. We also have a fireplace in the living room, which is lovely but takes a lot of work to chop the wood for it. As part of learning self reliance, the kids all get to chop wood for the fireplace, because I always like to have a three or four week supply on hand. The beauty of the natural gas furnace is that it is so simple, so there are very few parts that can break or erode. It is a very simple heating system to install and maintain yourself.

I didn’t go back to work because I needed the money, I just realized that I missed it! Thirty eight years ago I started my own business, and it consumed my life for most of my time after that.

After enough years, I managed to build it up into something notable, and then five years ago I got an offer for a buyout.

With the amount of cash being thrown at me, I could sell the business and never work another day in my life. And that lasted for a little while, before I got bored. I didn’t want to start a new HVAC company, I just wanted to get back to doing what I had done for so long. I live in a retirement community now, right on the beach, and everyone here relies on their air conditioners for nine to eleven months out of the year. That’s right, we don’t get a lot of winter weather, even in the winter, so the call for heating is weak. Air conditioner, on the other hand, is in demand every day in every way. I started letting my friends and neighbors know that I would be happy to look at any HVAC issues they might be having. I wasn’t working for free, however, all of my HVAC services came with the price tag of some pie and coffee, or a slice of cake. I love deserts, and it turns out the women around here love cooking for me, so I get AC repair requests all the time from people who don’t actually have a problem!

Although I moved to a new town just to go to college, I ended up working on campus instead of studying there. I had been obsessed with this university all through high school, but once I got there I realized it was a fantasy. It was just a school, like any other, and one that cost a small fortune to attend! Faced with applying to expensive classes I might not be able to afford, I rethought my future and decided to look for a sign. Then I saw a flier that changed my life, as a local HVAC repair company was looking for new employees, and were offering on-the-job training. The base starting pay for certified HVAC techs was far beyond anything I was hoping to make. I knew I wouldn’t start at that rate, because I didn’t have HVAC certification, but it meant this was a job with a future. Since the demand for skilled HVAC work was so high, the salaries were very attractive, and boosted me to call the number the next morning. I told them I had no experience but was eager to learn the basics of HVAC work and make a career out of it. Within a few months I was back on campus, only now I was the assistant to an HVAC tech to worked in the dorms and the classrooms. It wasn’t the future I envisioned, but at least it is a future!

It’s not an incredibly difficult job, but it happens to be a career that is dominated mostly by men. About one in 10 HVAC repair technicians are women. The numbers are higher in the city and lower in the country. I decided to choose HVAC repairs as my career when I was in the Navy. I thought it would end up being a great secondary career when I decided to end my tour with the military. It was quite easy to find a job after I left. In the civilian world, HVAC technicians earn a decent living. The only problem was finding someone that was willing to hire me. A lot of people didn’t even give me an interview because they saw my name on the application and realized I was a woman. I finally stopped using my whole first name. Instead of Jessica, I started writing Jesse on all of my applications. One HVAC company contacted me and offered me a job over the phone as long as I could pass the drug test and criminal background check. When I showed up for the first day on the job, the manager surely had a look on his face. He realized at that time that I was a woman and not a man. He still gave me that job and I have been working at that company for the past five years. Every once in awhile I have an issue at work, but most of the businesses that I serviced have no problem with my sex.

The supermarket has two rental air purifiers from the company where I work.

Each one of the air purifiers is serviced weekly by our company. We check for problems with the mechanical and electrical components, clean all of the machine parts, and change the air filters. These air purifiers are made to remove all of the harmful dust, dirt, bacteria, and viruses that are in the air. We saw a huge increase in the amount of rental air purifiers as soon as the first newspaper articles about covid-19. Even after the government no longer mandated them in every building, several of our clients still continue to clean and filter the air just to be safe. I want to the supermarket on Tuesday to service the air purifiers and I was surprised to see the district manager standing behind the counter. I’ve only met the district manager one time in the past, when our company was originally hired to handle all of the HVAC work. I greeted the district manager and we talked for a few minutes. Then the conversation got weird really fast. The woman told me that she was staying in town at the hotel and holiday suites. She gave me a key to her room and told me to be discreet. Then she grabbed a hunk of my butt. Seriously, I‘ve met this lady one time. I have no idea what she was thinking, but it made me feel really, really uncomfortable.

My girlfriend and I have been arguing a lot lately. I don’t know why we can’t agree on anything, but we seem to fight about something every single day. Yesterday we started arguing about all of the things that are wrong with our relationship. I didn’t realize my girlfriend was so unhappy until she started naming off all of the things that I do to make her unhappy. One of the things on her list was adjusting the temperature on the thermostat. My girlfriend was unhappy because I like the temperatures cooler than she does. This was never something that she wanted to discuss when we weren’t arguing, but it seemed to be something that she always brought up when we were in the middle of a fight. We argued about the thermostat and the indoor temperatures for several hours and then I fell asleep on the couch. I got up to go to work the next morning and the first job on my schedule was an air conditioner repair. I’ve been working as an air conditioner repair technician for the past 10 years. Five of those years have been with the same company. My girlfriend showed up at the business address and he waited for me to come back from the air condition repair. She was sitting in the parking lot Bobby when I arrived and she caused a big scene. My boss threatened to call the cops if we did not leave and handle our business somewhere else. I thought I was going to get fired.

Even though my wife and I live in a warm climate, there are still some days during the winter months when the temperatures are freezing overnight. These cold temperatures never last more than a couple of hours, but they can be hard on the chickens. My wife and I have had chickens in our backyard for 10 years. The kids absolutely love feeding the animals and looking for eggs. I noticed the chickens were very lethargic last winter when the temperatures were cold during January and February. This year I decided to make some changes. I added a small radiant heater in the outdoor chicken coop. It’s close to the top of the building where the chickens won’t bother it. The machine is cold to the touch, so we don’t have to be concerned about the animals getting hurt or being affected. A few days after I added the radiant heater, I noticed a huge difference in the behavior of the animals. They were making more noise and they were much more active. The chickens are so much happier now that they have heat during the cold winter days. I’m so glad that my wife and I made the decision to add heat to the chicken house. We had our eyes set on a couple of Easter egg laying chickens that are at the pet store. If they are still there in April when the weather is warmer, I think we will probably bring them home and make them part of our family. It’s too difficult to introduce a new hen in winter, but spring will work out well.

My girlfriend and I live in an old apartment building.

There are consistently problems with the Heat and the air conditioning system.

We have to call for a repairman once a month. The apartment building uses the same company for all of their heating and AC repairs. My girlfriend and I know all of them very well because we have seen them plenty of times. One guy in particular always stands out in our mind, because he is very quiet. He hardly ever says a word while he is making repairs. Conrad will talk your ear off and take 2 hours to complete the same work. Jack is a no business kind of guy. He completes the work quickly and gets out of there. My girlfriend and I have never had a conversation with Jack, but we had the opportunity last Thursday when he came to our home for a different reason. My girlfriend and I ordered marijuana from a local pot shop. We decided to have the items delivered and Jack was the guy making the delivery. I knew it was our HVAC repairman as soon as I saw his face. He was actually much more upbeat and chipper when we saw him later in the evening. I talked to us for a couple of minutes and we found out that he has two full-time jobs. One of the jobs is working as an HVAC repairman during the day and the other job is a full-time night job working as a cannabis delivery driver. This quiet guy had a lot of interesting things to say once he started talking.
