So when it was time to go back to work inside the zone controlled HVAC of office downtown, I really didn’t want to go. As much as I fought to stay inside that zone controlled HVAC of the office when the pandemic hit, I now felt completely the opposite. Initially, it was really tough to find any sort of focus and rhythm when I first started working from home in my own air conditioning. But before long, I started to get the hang of the online meetings and getting my work done. The thing that started to emerge was just how much more freedom I had over my day. Without all the endless interruptions by well intended coworkers, I was getting so much more work done. And that work was of a much higher quality as well. The biggest thing that made the most difference when working at home in my own air conditioning was having my own space. Being able to close the door and get to work was fantastic. The kids were doing their thing and are old enough and dedicated to their studies enough that I didn’t have to sit on them. So when I brought up the fact that I’d like to continue to work remotely, the bosses weren’t exactly thrilled as I tend to be a go to answer guy. But I held firm and I even got some incentives to continue working remotely. With that bonus, I bought a small, prefab building and put it in the back yard. This way, we could get the guest room back and I could have my own, separate office. The ductless heat pump the HVAC company put in rivals the zone controlled HVAC of the office I just left.
