I simply closed the windows, reset the thermostat and called the HVAC company
I really didn’t want it to come to this. Honestly, I tried my best to be reasonable about the heating and cooling in this house. I explained to my family that I wasn’t trying to be nit picky but the way the HVAC was being abused had to stop. And I really tried to engage everyone instead of just barking my displeasure. But none of these efforts appears to have made any difference at all. This was clear when I caught an early flight home from a business trip and didn’t go on to the office. I came home to find that my pleas were completely ignored. I walked into the house and took a look at thermostat setting. This was a digital thermostat that I had taken the time to learn how to program. But that was a waste of time as my family just jerks the thermostat around however suits them. It was the middle of peak heating hours in the summer with temperatures near a hundred. The thermostat was set to 68. As I walked further into the house, I found two windows open with speakers in them so tunes could be heard outside on the pool deck. That was it. I didn’t flip out or go crazy which sort of terrified the kids. I simply closed the windows, reset the thermostat and called the HVAC company. Two days later, I had a smart thermostat put in. It comes with a manual mode that I can lock everyone out of and that’s exactly what I did.
